The Ultimate Way to Plan Your Week

 

It’s Sunday, you’ve heard all these self-development gurus talk incessantly about how it’s vital you spend at least 70% of your day meditating, updating your vision board, stating your affirmations and aligning with your goals for the decade.

 

Only problem is…who has time for that?!

 

If you’re anything like me, you have nothing against self-development, setting goals and kicking ass in life, however it can be difficult to sift and sort through all the information and figure out what ACTUALLY works.

 

Enter, Richucation.

For the unfamiliars, Richucation is essentially your one stop shop for all things business, personal growth, financial – the ultimate resource to a kickass life.

 

Here is a foolproof formula for planning out your week in a way that will ensure that not only are things getting done but there is productivity and focus is on the right things (very important distinction).

 

The first thing you want to start with is:

 

Long term goals

 

  • This is where you identify 1-3 long term goals you’re moving towards. This could be for 3 months, 6 months or a year, whatever makes the most sense for you at this time. It’s very important that these goals are TANGIBLE – meaning they can be measured.

 

For example, “improve myself” is not a tangible goal, where as “write & publish 1 blog post” is.

 

Once those are established, move on to:

 

Necessities

 

  • Necessities are the things that need to be done day to day, for example, you have to eat & make time to eat every day or risk eventual death. This could also be things like going to your job if your goals are going to be done outside that time frame.

 

How do we know what a necessity is?

 

  • This piece is crucial! How do we actually know what a necessity is? We know because the results will be catastrophic if they don’t get done.

 

  • For example, if you have a dog right now it is a necessity to ensure you take the dog outside every day, otherwise it will poop in your house and you’ll have to use just as much time cleaning that up (plus it’s gross).

 

  • An example of a non-necessity would be making the bed. Although it’s something people recommend and you pride yourself on, the results of not doing it will not result in catastrophe.

 

 

NOW, based on long term goals, it’s time to deconstruct & look at some milestones.

 

  • This is where we’re going to work backwards to figure out what needs to be done by what week, month, milestone mark, etc.

 

  • For example, if you want to lose 7lbs over 2 months, we need to make sure you’ve lost 3.5lbs by the end of the first month.

 

TWO INSANELY IMPORTANT THINGS TO DETERMINE:

 

  1. Figure out the price in advance and resolve to pay it

 

This is a very important point for mindset going into your goal. If you know the price you have to pay in order to hit your goal, it makes it a lot easier to plan for it.

 

For example, if your goal is completely revamp your wardrobe, go find someone who has a wardrobe similar to what you want and find out how much they paid for it. If they paid $3000.00 for their wardrobe, you know you need to allot at least $3500.00 for your new wardrobe, as you’ll probably make some mistakes.

 

This is where you must be willing to go and buy what you need in order to hit your goal.

 

This could be:

 

  1. Training of some sort
  2. Spend $5000 on testing different forms of advertising
  3. Work for free for a mentor
  4. A personal trainer/nutritionist for fitness goals

 

Once you have this in place it will help you not only be prepared to hit your goals, but more motivated to working towards them as you now have an investment in yourself.

6 RESOURCES

Some context…

The age-old parable is that poor people trade time for money & rich people make money work for them. This has one very fundamental flaw, and that is that when you’re low on money, all you have is your time, so you must figure out a way to get money & then make your money work for you.

 

As a result, the key thing is that the 6 resources should show the progression from only having time to having both time and money.

 

When you don’t yet have the money, you trade your time for:

 

  1. Expertise

 

  1. Relationships

 

Once you have expertise & relationships you focus on:

 

  1. Reputation/Celebrity

 

Leverage that to get:

 

  1. Assets

 

Assets will get you:

 

  1. Money

 

Money will allow:

 

  1. Time/Freedom

 

The results you’re searching for in the week must challenge you, but not so much that it’s overwhelming. Chances are your first week or two using this system will be something of a test drive, showing you what your sweet spot is for your own productivity system.

 

TIME FRAMES:

 

Time is measured in the number of hours; however, a time frame is how long a period those hours are stretched over (i.e. 40 hours could be stretched over 3 months)

 

Time frames are very important to understand with planning.  It’s vital to recognize not only how much time you need to do the tasks but how much time do you need for learning the skills necessary to do them.

 

This could be shown in some of the following ways:

 

  • Market testing – how long do ads need to run for to see what results are attained
  • How long it takes to train/hire employees before they are productive on their own

 

Ultimately, it’s having the mentality of knowing you can do this, you just have to put in the time and having the perspective & proper time frame will allow you to move forward without getting frustrated.

 

NEXT STEPS:

 

  1. Figure out desired result for set milestones for the week.

 

HOW TO ENSURE YOU GET DESIRED RESULT:

 

For example, if one of your goals is to have 10,000 subscribers by this time next year, that means over a year you need 30 people per day.

 

However, you most likely will not get 30 people/day in the beginning, as well you will most get more than 30 people/day in the end, so it helps to know some milestones along the way so you don’t get discouraged in the beginning. This is where seeking out relationships & expertise with people who know or have done what you’re trying to achieve is incredibly helpful. There’s no better perspective than from someone who’s been through it.

 

Let’s pretend your goal is to have 10,000 subscribers, your 1st milestone would be:

 

Have something ready to sell

 

2nd milestone would be:

 

Within 21 days, get back enough money to pay for cost of acquiring customer x2. If you can acquire a customer for $30, you must have a plan to get $60 for each customer acquired within 21 days.

 

3rd milestone would be:

 

Once that is consistently achieved, you want to have a way to sell more and acquire more customers.  

 

To reach the goal of acquiring a customer for $30, that will double in value (i.e. $60+ for you in profit), it would be smart to allot yourself a time frame of approximately 2 months – hypothetically.

 

Now, what you can implement, is budget $100/day for advertising, double it every day, until you’re spending $1600/day on advertising.

 

Work the numbers backwards & it tells you:

 

  1. What you have to spend – in this case, it will be $8000.00. This is an example of resolving to pay the price beforehand.

 

  1. This allows you to break down how you will hit 10,000 subscribers and know the process along the way.

 

  1. This is based on a bunch of fundamental assumptions – one assumption being you can double every month – can that actually be done? This is where you can challenge your ideas & find people with expertise to solve these problems.

 

This can be applied to learning a skill, losing weight, developing a more in-depth relationship with your spouse – you name it! The key is to know the day to day actions as well as any price associated with your goal so you don’t get frustrated or discouraged along the way.

 

Next, decide what results you need done on a daily basis. These are the things you won’t let yourself go to bed without having them completed!

 

  • These are the non-negotiables in your day to day.

 

  • You must have a calendar (or some sort of scheduler) that is easy for you & you can use both in the office/house and on the go.

 

  • This is where you determine what works for you in terms of blocking off set periods of time, allotting certain tasks to certain days, and it comes down to you & your commitment.

 

  • The goal here is NOT to lock you in to any specific type of calendar or planning system, it is to ensure you get the high value items done & move yourself forward.

 

Finally, review your results daily.

 

This is the opportunity to ask yourself 2 all important questions at the end of the day.

 

First and foremost, what did you learn?

 

This question could be framed as ‘how long did things actually take vs. how long you thought they would take?’ or it could revolve around what order you did things in and how it worked for you. The ultimate goal here is to help you get a sense of where your productivity sweet spot is.

 

And finally, if you could do it over again what would you do differently?

 

If you could start the day again knowing what you know now, would you do it differently and if so, how? This is a key reflection piece that will drastically improve your productivity.

 

Although these 2 questions may seem daunting at first, give them a week or so and you’ll be amazed at how much more you’ll flow as well as the quality of your days.
